We invite applications from anywhere in the world, with the exception of
the United States, which is served through our sister program Report
for America. We welcome an array of urban, suburban and rural
organizations and plan to continue working in the countries where we already operate.

Newsrooms may publish in any language, but we ask that English be one of the languages spoken by newsroom leaders. We speak Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, French, and more!

Editorial decisions are entirely up to our newsroom partners and the corps members who they hire as part of the Report for the World program. We invite prospective newsrooms to identify coverage gaps that would be addressed through full-time reporting positions, with the goal of better serving communities and improving the lives of residents. Current beats are listed here.

We launch an open call for applications, asking newsrooms to propose one or more beats they need to cover. We’ll select a group to call for interviews and from that pool we’ll select the finalists. Selected newsrooms can at that time open a call of their own for journalists to fill the position we’ll support. 

Report for the World is an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in the United States. With funding from Google News Initiative, MacArthur Foundation and a variety of other individual and family donors, we pay for half of the cost of the position, renewable for the second year under the same terms. If the partnership is renewed by mutual agreement in the third year, our contribution lowers to one third.

We have strict funding guidelines that guarantee our program, including our host newsrooms and corps members, will operate with editorial independence and freedom.
