Lilia Balam is an investigative journalist and photojournalist. She has collaborated with media outlets such as Die Zeit, Gatopardo, Coolt, Volcánicas, Distintas Latitudes, Sin Embargo, Pie de Página and Memorias de Nómada, covering human rights, gender, health and environmental issues. She belongs to the fifth generation of the Latin American Network of Young Journalists (#RedLATAM), from Distintas Latitudes, and to the Network of Trainers in Digital Tools for Journalists of the Google News Initiative and Factual. She is co-founder of the collective “Somos Periodistas”, which defends the rights of journalists in the Yucatán region of Mexico.
