InfoAmazonia

InfoAmazonia is the first media outlet to focus on data journalism to produce stories on socio-environmental issues in the Amazon. The organization publishes content in the nine countries covered by the region in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Since 2012, InfoAmazonia has analyzed data and worked with other outlets to raise awareness about the threats to the world’s largest rainforest and its people. The reporting is based on geojournalism, a line of data journalism that uses maps to infuse geolocated reports with data, thus thus creating more robust and informative work.

Beat: Indigenous peoples and other traditional populations

Position: InfoAmazonia is hiring a journalist to work full-time reporting on socio-environmental issues. This position aims to cover topics related to indigenous peoples, quilombolas, riverine communities, and other traditional peoples, as well as the use of natural resources and the impacts of the climate emergency on the Amazon. We accept applications from candidates with at least two years of experience and coverage on the subject. A publication rhythm of at least one story per week is expected for this position. The ideal candidate will be interested in researching and analyzing environmental data and building illustrative visualizations or a desire to learn how to do so. Intermediate knowledge of English and Spanish is a plus.
